Types of Cavies 

There are sixteen breeds of cavies accepted by the OCC and are as follows: 

 

 

Smooth coat or american  

 

Satin smooth coat 

 

Abyssinian - short coat with a pattern of rosettes

 

Satin abyssinian 

 

Peruvian - long coat with rosettes

 

Satin peruvian 

 

White crested - smooth coat and a white rosette on the forehead.  White can only be in the crest.

 

Satin crested - example of a satin self crested. Crest same colour as body colour.

 

 Silkie - long hair with no rosettes

 

Satin silkie 

 

Teddy - short, kinky coat 

 

Satin teddy 

 

 Coronet - long hair with a rosette on forehead

 

Merino - curly version of the coronet 

 

Boucle - curly version of the peruvian 

Texel - Curly version of the silkie

 

 

 

 

Cavy Colours

Cavy coat colours accepted when showing your pet. Many variations and colours are seen in cavies though and any coloured cavy, even the hairless ones, make wonderful pets.

 

 

Beige - dark eyes

 

 Black 

 

                            Buff - dark eyed.                                           Saffron - buff with pink eyes

 

 Cream - dark eyes

 

Lilac - pink eyes

 

White - can have dark or pink eyes

 

Orange or Golden - can have dark or red eyes

 

Red - dark eyes

 

 Dilute agouti - with belly band & can have dark or pink eyes

 

Golden agouti - with belly band 

 

Silver agouti - with belly band 

 

        Solid dilute - no belly band & can have                      dark or pink eyes

 

 Solid golden - no belly band

 

Solid silver - no belly band 

 

 Brindle

 

 Roan

 

Dalmation 

 

Dutch 

 

 Himalayan - pink eyes

 

Parti 

 

Tortoiseshell 

 

 Tortoiseshell & White

 

Marten - black with silver belly

 

 Tan - black with tan belly
